A Party With a View: Le Monde Beryl Celebrated Design Week in New York
With a view onto the United Nations Plaza, the backdrop for Le Monde Beryl’s cocktail party on Tuesday night was like something out of North by Northwest. Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Shyfrin, the designers behind the London-based shoe label, gathered a stylish crowd of artists (Hope Atherton and Quentin Jones) and fashion folk (stylists Kate Young and Beverley Nguyen and contributing Vogue writer Lynn Yaeger) for a celebration of design week at the penthouse apartment of their writer friend Tarajia Morrell, who co-hosted the event with Sarah Levine of the Lehman Maupin gallery.
“We wanted to celebrate all of our friends in New York during design week and thank them for supporting us,” said Atherton Hanbury and Shyfrin. Indeed, many of their loyal supporters showed up wearing their charming and surprisingly practical gondolier slippers—as the story goes, the duo was inspired to create Le Monde Beryl after a trip to the Venice Biennale.
Light-filled and with a stunning wraparound terrace, the apartment itself has played host to countless festivities over the years, having been in Morrell’s family since the 1970s. Morrell enlisted the help of chef and food stylist Mariana Velasquez to create the exquisite spread that included quail eggs with Roe Caviar, asparagus with sauce gribiche, and a whole roast salmon with cucumber scales.
As the sunset over the east river and guests sipped on Souleil wine and mezcal Negronis, the evening ended on a high note as Jackson Scott, a Spanish flamenco musician, serenaded the crowd with an acoustic guitar performance.
