[light rock music]
That's the glam.
Are you doing yours? Diary of a model?
She's just doing a little diary of a Model, huh.
Yes, oh my gosh.
I'm in every body's freaking one.
You really are.
Amazing. You have one.
Yeah. Did you watch it? No.
Oh. Sorry.
That's [beep noise] up. You should watch it.
I'm gonna watch yours.
Hell yeah. And these shoes look cute.
[rock music]
[door opens]
Good morning Vogue. My name is Ruby Aldridge.
I just woke up and you guys are going to be joining me today
to go to the Rodarte Fashion Show.
[calm alternative music]
I normally take this part, like, very slowly
like, really before I have a crazy day,
just like, you know, take this moment
to just enjoy this, cause it's nice.
I drink instant coffee.
It's very bougie.
I guess I could upgrade to like a French press
or a pour-over, I'll get there.
This teapot is life, it's really nice.
I started modeling because my sister is a model
and she was doing a photo shoot for Elle Girl Magazine.
One of the models like dropped out that morning,
or maybe the night before.
I was probably 14, and her agency was like,
why don't you use her little sister?
You know, a lot of girls have to go,
and I have done this experience also where you
like, go to tons of castings and all of this.
But my first season, I didn't have any expectations.
I was excited. I was excited to be with my sister.
I was excited. It felt like very natural, I will say.
You know, I got really, I was really fortunate
that I got to open Marc by Marc that season.
And then get to walk Marc Jacobs.
And it just catapulted me into, into doing all the shows.
Like, I don't know if I would even have the stamina
to do what I did 10, you know, however many years ago,
show-wise, you know, like today I have one show
we're going to Rodarte,
and I'm like, sweet, that's good for me.
That's more than enough.
You know? I think when I was little,
I knew I always wanted to be in bands.
I remember like being in middle school
and like trying to start a band with like two girls,
we called ourselves like Pepcid,
which is like this acid in your stomach
that, like, melts food.
Oh, we're like, this is cool.
And then when I was like 19,
I met one of my best friends in Bozidar.
I was talking about wanting to play music, I think with him,
he got one of his friends and we met in a practice space,
a drummer, guitar player, and me,
and just like started making music.
Okay. I'm going to get dressed.
I'll be right back.
Oh my God.
Okay wait, I need deodorant.
Are you guys ready to go the fashion show?
All right. Let's go.
I really love it. I really love, I love living here.
I don't think at any other place in the world,
you could like wake up at 5:30 in the morning,
six o'clock in the morning and go buy flowers at a Deli.
I moved to New York with my mom when I was like 16,
stayed for a little, moved back to LA
and then moved back again when I was 17.
Okay, we're gonna go to Tompkins,
finest deli for the finest smoothie.
Thank you!
New York City, baby.
Can I have 36, and can you add spinach to it?
[calm alternative music]
All right. Let's go to the show.
It's amazing. Having Millie as a sister,
I was planning to go to the Bulgari party
and I'd like hit up a few friends.
And I was like, I guess I'm going to go alone.
And then I'll think, I wonder if my sister's here.
I texted her like, hello. are you in New York?
Cause we hadn't spoken in like a couple of days,
I looked at her Instagram
and she's like, hey, New York city,
and I'm like, she's already here.
She didn't even tell me she was here.
And so I texted her immediately and I was like,
are you going to Bulgary tonight? She's like, yes.
So I was like, great, you're my date.
I know that we are there four hours before the show,
which leads me to believe that there must be
crazy hair and makeup up?
That is my intuition.
All right. We've arrived.
We are so on time.
[upbeat music]
Remember that mellow, that feeling?
Now we're in the opposite.
We've come to the other side.
I always like getting hair done first,
cause then I don't have to sit
with the makeup on as long, it's a pro tip.
Pro, pro, pro tip.
I like your hat.
Are you video-ing?
We're filming for Vogue.
Oh okay, we'll talk later.
[upbeat music]
I've been working with Rodarte since the beginning,
which is maybe 12 years, 14 years,
time passed by so I can't remember,
but they're lovely, talented, incredible.
Amazing hair!
Thanks honey.
So nice. Right?
We're ready for me.
Yes, let's do it.
I'm only slightly devastated that I'm not,
I did see one of the extreme makeup looks
and I'm only slightly heartbroken that I'm not getting it.
This is the face part of getting your makeup done.
The base massage, literally free massage.
So makeup artists will stand behind you,
and you get to lean on their body.
And they just like,
I do it too, sometimes it's a little bad.
It's a lot.
Are you getting too into that?
It's intimate.
You're like I don't even know,
wait what's your name again? It's intimate.
Normally I just say, they're like, are you comfortable?
And I'm like, yes, this is fine.
My mom sent me these for my birthday.
And I thought I would never, I was like, what the heck?
[Ruby laughs]
I'd have so many shows in one day.
I've definitely had like five people
at one time working on me, like two people on my hair,
two people on my face,
maybe even six people like toes, manicure.
And you're just like,
[upbeat music]
Oh my god, hi! Hi!
I'm not going to lie.
I'm a little jealous
that I don't have face paint. I know.
I don't know who to talk to,
or like, what call to make,
but I'm a little jealous, I know.
that I don't have face paint.
So, we're doing a matte foundations
and matte soft matte concealers.
We're adding a little bit of eyebrow, but super subtle.
And then this soft matte lip balm,
which stains the lip,
but also like gives it a little bit of tone.
And then there's creative
dashes of sunset,
some explosions on the forehead.
It's like, I'm taking mushrooms and I'm doing makeup.
Every one, we have 30 minutes until rehearsal,
30 minutes so we need everyone to kinda wrap it up.
So we're going to go downstairs right now for rehearsal.
And then after that,
I will give you a little taste of how I do my strike.
Blisters are simply a part of the experience.
I currently have a Hello Kitty band-aid on,
they're going to replace it, I guess.
It's not appropriate for the show, turns out.
I was just informed that this is actually
where the show is gonna be.
I'm checking out the floor,
making sure it's not too cobblestoney.
Just take space here so you can see what
we're doing on the stage. Just come forward.
We're going to send you every four seconds,
in a straight line to the middle of the cameras.
Look in front of me, in the middle of the cameras.
We gotta pose you by one in the order of the finale.
I show you where your mark is,
and you can come on your mark and remember it.
[upbeat pop music]
My tips and tricks for how to walk down the runway.
I'm going on the podium.
You got to think of something positive,
and be confident or else you're just gonna look like lost.
I'm coming, I'm on the runway.
Don't take yourself too seriously.
Don't fall. Just don't fall.
[upbeat pop music]
Hi babes.
Are you ready? I'm so excited.
When we were talking about the show,
and the inspiration we were thinking
that it's all about the individual experience
and then a communal experience, an artistic experience,
and Ruby was actually one of the peak models for that,
because we thought she just had such a interior spirit
that would come to life on the runway.
It was, I think one of the first people
we put up kind of on the board to look at and,
Everyone was like, yes!
I know. Wow.
And it never, I didn't know this.
We didn't tell you
when you came in
talking happens, you know, you have a concept somehow.
Ruby was always at the very beginning
of the casting process.
So for us, we just felt it was so important
to have people to just, I think for us, inspired us.
And I think she's just so cool and interesting.
So it just, it's so exciting for to have her in the show.
I watched every one's, I loved every one's,
including my own.
I'm just kidding.
I like Cara Taylor's one,
Megan Rose's one is also really good.
It's cool cause it's obviously all little different shows
and, like, different features, and everyone's got
their own weird way of, like, doing it, you know.
[upbeat electronic music]
Like right before I walk out, I just tell myself
like, positive things in my head,
like you're not going to fall, you're going to be great.
[upbeat electronic music]
Did she like it? Did she love it?
She loved it.
Girls, you look,
[beep noises]
beautiful, is what I can say.
So remember a lot of energy faster than the music.
Congratulations, thank you!
[upbeat electronic music]
[people clap]
Thank you so much everyone! Well done guys!
All right. That's it guys.
That was the Rodarte Fashion Show, we just wrapped.
It was awesome. Thank you so much for watching
and I'll see you next time.
Hi corgi! I like your dog.
Kevin on St. Marks.
