Alicia Keys Embraced Summery Style at Dior’s Mexico City Show

Alicia Keys’s trip to Mexico City last week was a whirlwind. Last Wednesday, the singer kicked off her eventful visit to Mexico’s capital with her final performance on her Latin American tour at the Auditorio Nacional. “I’ve been all over Latin America,” says Keys. “I just finished performing in Mexico City and Guadalajara.” To keep the excitement going, Keys attended Maria Grazia Chiuri’s resort 2024 collection for Dior. “To be here for Dior and Maria Grazia is really awesome,” says Keys. “It was the most beautiful way to end the most incredible tour.”

Both events were a special occasion for Keys, given it was her very first time in Mexico City. In addition to the amazing food and beautiful architecture, the star says she was instantly drawn to the city’s people. “I just really love the people, the energy, the love,” says Keys. “The art is incredible.” She was particularly struck by just how big the city is, too. “Culturally, it is so rich and it’s such a big city—so much bigger than you would maybe even think,” she says. “There’s the big city element, and then you can drive an hour away and go to the pyramids.”

For the Dior show, Keys selected an easy, summery look from the label that was all about the crop top—something she thinks reflects her own personal style. “I always like to look like myself,” says Keys. “I loved my look: It felt playful—casual, but fun. I love the crop top and the way that it tied in the back. I also loved the details of the beautiful elephants—the material of the piece.” She accessorized the look with a silver choker necklace and sleek sunglasses. “I loved the whole vibe,” says Keys.

She described the runway, which she watched from the front row, as an “emotional” experience. “The inspiration that was taken from Mexican culture that was honored, just really seeing that play out in the show was really beautiful—with all the hairstyles, the faces of the women and the diversity of the models,” Keys says. “I thought that was really powerful.” The star’s favorite part was the impactful statement made during the finale, when Chiuri showcased white dresses with red embroidery that called attention to missing or murdered Indigenous women. “The statement at the end of the show that Maria Grazia made with the women in white, I thought that was tremendous,” says Keys. “To learn and to discover more about how many Mexican women go missing. . . and to create a special moment in the show for that, was really powerful. It shows the way that we can combine art, fashion, and activism to open people’s minds to what’s happening.”

Now that her Mexico City jaunt is over, however, Keys will rest for a bit. But come June, she’ll be right back to work with her “Keys to the Summer” tour, which kicks off on June 28th in the U.S. “It’s going to be incredible,” says Keys. “It’s my first 360 [degrees] show ever! The stage is right in the middle of the entire arena. It’s going to be one of the most beautiful, special things I’ve ever done.” We can’t wait.
