You know what they say about rain and Met Gala, right?

It's good luck?

No, they always say it stops for Anna.

So let's see if it happens or not.

[upbeat music]

[rain splashing]

[cars beeping]

[elevator dinging]

Hi! Hi!

[Prabal] Don't open your eyes.

[Alia] They are being very filmy right now.

[Prabal and Alia laughing]

No, no, really.

All right, okay.

This is like, a filmy moment.

Ta da!

I think I'm gonna cry. Oh my god.

I'm very emotional.

Prabs! This is literally how we imagined it.

I know, I know.

[Alia] Did you say 100,000?

Yeah, a hundred thousand different pearls.

Embroidery is done in India.

Fabric is from France, made in New York.

So this is a well-traveled-

It's global-traveled!

A global, global, global gown.

It's a global gown.

It's too pretty. You don't wanna do anything to it.

You wanna stare at it forever.

This is the carpet, okay.

So we get off here.

Photographers are here.

No, no, one second. This is the carpet.

I'm photographer line one, photographer line two.

Now this is the carpet.

Okay so you're coming from there,

you're waiting in line

so they'll call you, Okay, you're next.

So you come here.

Prabal fluffs her dress so she looks the best, prettiest,

the dress looks amazing.

Then I move, then you take a picture right here.

From here or here.

Then you move a little bit forward.

Center. Okay.

Okay. You start taking the picture.

You give the front picture, back picture, side picture.

All of them, okay.

So actually you and I have been talking about this

for quite some time.

I mean, since-

Since I think for the past three years you've been like,

sending me feelers, being like, Let's do it, let's do it.

Because you know, I've always been like,

Do you wanna do it? Yeah.

That's the brilliance of you,

is that you know your instincts, you know.

You know when it's the right time, you know?

Yeah.

And if you felt it, you're just like,

All right, let's do it.

I was just like, Yes!

[speaks foreign language]

Which means?

Which means?

Do whatever you want, do it with your heart.

Yeah, I agree.

So now with our hearts, should we go try this dress on?

[soft music playing]

It's very personal for me, this particular moment.

We've talked about this for a very long time, Alia and I.

This dress to me signifies just this beautiful

pure start in the international world.

And you know I kept on telling her

she's the Met Virgin, you know?

So I was like, let's just go with white.

The Chanel brides are the most iconic brides.

You're not South Asians, you know, we've always been here.

But often, you know, we felt that we didn't

either get the mic or the table or any platform.

So like now to be embraced and not looked upon as a,

let's say, heritage month entertainment

but looked upon as a fabric of the society

and celebrated like that and seen like that.

It feels really great.

[cheering and clapping]

I'm trying to walk.

Cool. Can somebody just like, lift me up

and place me on the carpet now from here?

I mean, I'm strong but not that strong.

[Alia] Stepping into-

[Prabal] Your second layer of meringue.

So I'm actually feeling very comfortable.

That's all I want to hear.

As the designer, that's all you want to hear.

Comfort is key because-

Like the jeans and tee shirt, huh?

Don't push it so far, jeans and tee shirt.

[laughing]

Pushed it a bit.

The details of it, like the smaller beads here, right?

And then, you know, it gives you even more-

And the embroidery was done in India.

I know, I know. So amazing.

And look, it feels like a waterfall.

Yeah. You know?

[Assistant] It's Mumbai to the Met.

Yeah, Mumbai, Mumbai to the Met, exactly.

[Assistant] Mumbai to the Met.

[chill music playing]

So I have to say, I woke up quite like, Oh!

Like I have an exam.

So definitely a lot of nerves.

But you know, I'm a classic Pisces,

so I'm very good at blocking my feelings out

right til the very end and like, the last moment.

We are basically going to just make Alia look like Alia.

I know, I mean, people are expecting.

We've also gotten messages like,

You're going to kill it, edgy.

And I dunno what. I'm like,

Oh my God, there's too much pressure.

But honestly I just want Alia to look like herself

because I think she's stunning.

I'm definitely feeling very romantic.

So I was like blush, blush, like go for the blush.

Like I should be like a ball of blush, you know?

Like just like, cheeks and like, nose and like, ears.

Like, everything should just be pink and like, romantic.

When you talk about like,

one of the major events in the year, globally,

one of the first events that will come to your mind

is the Met Gala.

And of course we've been, you know,

looking at images every year.

You're like, okay, what's the theme?

What's everyone gonna wear?

So in terms of like, attention and focus and excitement,

I can see the energy on the street.

It is very exciting.

But I will definitely, like,

I can tell you when I'm stepping out of that splinter van,

like, I'm gonna feel a little wobble in my knee.

It's not gonna be really nice

'cause I have a very big dress and a very high shoe.

That nervousness is gonna really hit me.

Even when I was getting married, for example,

I think I was like, like this, you know?

Up until the last minute and there was the last moment

where suddenly I was like, this.

The thing is again, I'm so socially awkward

and so socially shy.

It's very strange how I'm an actor

and I'm like, literally in the movie business

that requires you to be, you know,

center stage, spotlight, being like whatever.

Bianca and I were talking about it yesterday

and she's like, You get in and you find us.

And I'm like, Okay, definitely

because you're gonna have to take me to the bathroom.

I'm not gonna be able to go by myself.

Honestly, I feel really grateful to be here.

I feel very happy, I feel very honored.

Today there was a whole list that came out

of the people that are attending

and I don't know whether it's a real list or a fake list

but it was so nice to see my name there on it

just below, like above Ben Affleck, who I'm a huge fan of.

And then I was like, oh my god Justin Bieber is coming!

[laughing]

I'm a big Bieber fan.

[melancholy orchestral music]

So this is the longest I've been away

from my daughter, Raha.

And she's almost six months now and I've only been away

from her for like 24 hours before this, like for one day.

And now it's almost going to be like, four days.

And I get a couple of seconds to video call her

as soon as I wake up.

[joyful music playing]

Okay, time to get into the dress.

[gushes of admiration]

So see, it's lifting from the side.

[Assistant] The whole purpose was for the can-can

to fill out the back.

Can you call Anthony?

[Assistant] Yeah.

The weight of this is pushing it in.

The second petty coat is inside.

[Alia] But he's on his way up, yeah?

He's stuck in the elevator.

Just get your self up here. [stressed sigh]

[Anthony] I just took the stairs.

Wow.

[Assistant] Anthony!

[Alia] Okay, take a beat, take a beat, take a beat.

[Assistant] How many flights did you run up, Anthony?

15.

[laughing]

Do you wanna help, Anthony? Have a look.

Can I see what's going on?

[Assistant] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Get under there. Here, let me take your coat.

Maybe it was too low.

[Anthony] It was.

Ah. Okay, this is much better.

[indistinct chattering in background]

[people laughing]

[Paparazzi] Guys, if you can step back?

We're trying to get a group shot.

Everybody needs to move back.

[crowd cheering]

I love you too!

[laughing]

[Assistant] Let's get out, let's get out.

[crowd cheering]

[Paparazzi yelling, cameras clicking]

[Paparazzi] Alia, look this way!

[More Paparazzi] Prabal, to your left!
